The District One Natural Resources Assistance Council recommended the following projects for Program Year Nine funding.
DPW09-01: CUYAHOGA COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
Towpath Trail: Tremont Pointe Preserve and Greenway
Total Project Cost: $2,627,594
Clean Ohio Award: $700,000
Acquisition Amount: 21.7 Acres
This project includes the acquisition of eleven and a quarter (11.25) acres located next to Tremont Pointe and Interstate 490; and approximately ten and a half (10.45) acres between West 3rd Street and West 5th Street in the City of Cleveland’s Tremont Neighborhood. These properties are part of the Towpath Trail and Greenway alignment. The project will restore natural open space and preserve and protect the area from development.
WCC09-02: WEST CREEK CONSERVANCY
West Creek Reservation Phase 4
Total Project Cost: $747,500
Clean Ohio Award: $553,500
Acquisition Amount: 14.5 Acres
This project consists of acquiring eight (8) properties that are adjacent to the West Creek Reservation in the City of Parma. A total of fourteen and a half (14.5) acres, the addition of these properties will expand the boundaries of Cleveland Metroparks’ West Creek Reservation. Furthermore this project will create significant linkages to surrounding communities, finalize trail connections and reclaim natural areas that were developed in an unsustainable manner.
CLM09-01: CLEVELAND METROPARKS
South Chagrin Preservation and Restoration Project
Total Project Cost: $825,500
Clean Ohio Award: $619,125
Acquisition Amount: 27 acres
The Cleveland Metroparks will acquire approximately twenty-seven (27) acres adjacent to the South Chagrin Reservation in the City of Solon. This project will expand the greenspace that serves as a connector between Cleveland Metroparks’ South Chagrin and Bedford Reservations. Restoration activities will enhance forest and meadow habitats within the property.
BFH09-01: CITY OF BEDFORD HEIGHTS
Solon Road Preserve
Total Project Cost: $467,746
Clean Ohio Award: $350,809
Acquisition Amount: 22 acres
The City of Bedford Heights will acquire and preserve approximately seventeen (17) acres in one parcel, and an additional four (4) acre portion of a second parcel. The City intends to combine these parcels with a one and two-tenths (1.2) acre City-owned parcel. Protecting these properties will protect natural resources and open space in the City, including a tributary stream to Tinker’s Creek.
WCC09-01: WEST CREEK CONSERVANCY
Baldwin Creek Conservation Corridor
Total Project Cost: $193,200
Clean Ohio Award: $133,200
Acquisition Amount: 15 Acres
This project includes the purchase and preservation of approximately fifteen (15) acres along the Baldwin Creek Corridor in the City of Parma. This project will preserve approximately two (2) acres of vital high functioning floodplains, more than 1,500 lineal feet of Baldwin Creek Tributary and a primary headwater habitat.
WRC09-01: WESTERN RESERVE LAND CONSERVANCY
Lakeshore Preserve
Total Project Cost: $317,973
Clean Ohio Award: $237,973
Acquisition Amount: 4.9 Acres
Western Reserve Land Conservancy will purchase and preserve four and nine-tenths (4.9) acres of wooded greenspace in the Village of Bratenahl; one of the few remaining mature forests along the coastline of Lake Erie in the Cleveland area. The project will also restore the property by controlling invasive species and modest replanting efforts.
