County Planning administers the State Capital Improvement Program and Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation Program in Cuyahoga County. Committee members and program staff reviewed, scored,  ranked, and recommended grant applications for infrastructure improvements and environmental conservation.

State Capital Improvement Program

The Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) provides funding for capital improvement projects through the State Capital Improvement Program, Local Transportation Improvement Program, and the Revolving Loan Program. The District One (Cuyahoga County) Public Works Integrating Committee (DOPWIC) staff reviewed and scored 52 project applications.

After completing the evaluations, the DOPWIC staff recommended projects that totaled approximately $29 million, the amount of allocated funds available. They also identified contingency projects that could be funded should more funds become available during the Program Year. The DOPWIC met on January 11, 2018 to review the Preliminary Project Rankings and Appeals. At the meeting, the DOPWIC selected 15 projects as primary recommendations and an additional three contingency projects.

Small Government Program

The Ohio Public Works Commission Small Government Program provides grants and loans to villages and townships with populations of less than 5,000. The DOPWIC Small Government Subcommittee met on February 5, 2018 to review the Small Government Project Ranking. They voted to approve five projects as primary recommendations and an additional two projects as contingency projects for statewide consideration by the OPWC Small Government Commission.

Clean Ohio

The Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation Program is dedicated to environmental conservation. This includes acquisition of green space and the protection and enhancement of river and stream corridors. The District One Natural Resources Assistance Council (NRAC) selects open space and riparian corridor projects that are visible, accessible, and instructional to receive funds from the Clean Ohio Program.

Five organizations applied for funding this year, with approximately $3.3 million available. The NRAC met on January 12, 2018 to review the preliminary rankings, and recommended four projects for Clean Ohio Conservation funds.
